SEPTEMBER VIDEO'S

>> Friday, October 3, 2008

In September we got nearly all photogs equipped and trained to produce video. Nine photogs have had at least one video published so far, that’s a good start considering that just a month ago only a handful us had ever produced a video before. We posted an impressive 28 videos in September, so we are really ramping-up our production significantly.

I realize many of us have had some exposure to video, while others are just getting started. So over the next couple of weeks we'll hold some training sessions for both the beginners as well as the more advanced. In addition to learning some basic shooting techniques, we've also taught an intro to video editing using Sony Vegas Pro 8. We will get into more Vegas techniques as well.

It's very important for everyone to practice and use the skills we've taught without waiting, so nothing learned will be lost. Also, Sony's website has some useful tutorials and Knowledge Base.

USS INTREPID RETURNES HOME
Here's a really nice video shot by Dave Bergeland of the return of the USS Intrepid. Notice the clean steady shots -no shake, very little panning and zoom.

JETLAG GEMINI
Here's one that Tariq did on a local rock band, happy to learn that the police recovered their stolenmusical instruments. Nice use of music and audio as a backtrack for the whole piece.

REUNION
Liz Lara did this piece on Hackensack Hospitals' School of Nursing 50th class reunion. Difficult assignment to shoot video and stills.

ER REOPENS
And lastly, this is a more in-depth piece I did on the re-opening of the Pascack Valley Hospital E.R. Notice how the voice over sets up the subject and then leads you into the A-Roll, and then is broken-up by the B-Roll shots.
